Middlesex Motorcaravans have undertaken a number of conversions for people
with various mobility issues

We
were approached by a customer who had a high roof, long wheel base VW T4
with a wheelchair lift and swivel seat adjustments already fitted. The
customer was able to access and drive the vehicle alone and wanted to be
able to use the van as an everyday mode of transport as well as a
motorcaravan for holidays.
After
insulating, ply lining, carpet lining and fitting windows, we fitted a rock
and roll bed with extra supports, a compact sink, a drawer compressor
fridge, Porta Potti storage and large storage cupboards. We also fitted a
large bank of batteries and inverter with intricate charging system to allow
the use of a microwave oven both on and off site.
We
also had the very satisfying challenge of converting a vehicle into a
motorcaravan for a family whose 13 year old son needed to travel in his
wheelchair. One of the main criteria was that he wanted the option to
access and exit the vehicle through the side sliding door and not always
through the back doors. We also needed to accommodate his sister in a
single seat with 3 point seat belt, an extra seat if she wanted to take a
friend and also full length wheelchair tracking to carry another wheelchair
user at the same time if necessary!

Windows
were fitted at appropriate heights to allow good vision for the wheelchair
traveller and other passengers and also the kitchen units were built at a
comfortable working height to prevent undue stress on the backs of the
parents.
These are just two examples which we hope give an insight
into how we can build conversions which address specific personal needs!
